My husband is being required to attend a meeting for his lunch break. Is this legal for Kansas? He is being deducted time for lunch, but required to go to this meeting.

LConnell 11-22-2004, 10:15 PM The legality depends on the purpose of the meeting, the reasons behind the need for the meeting, the exemption status of the employee and whether the meeting is mandatory. Please provide additional information. racheebug 11-23-2004, 05:23 AM The meeting was regarding a new heath insurance policy and was mandatory. I'm not sure what you mean by the exemption status of the employee. LConnell 11-24-2004, 03:55 AM It is unusual for a benefits meeting to be mandatory. However, if it was, the time that employees attended the meeting must be paid. The exception is that if your husband is not regularly entitled to overtime, such as one might find in an hourly position. Let me know if you have any other questions. unionwayne 11-25-2004, 09:07 AM My husband is being required to attend a meeting for his lunch break. Is this legal for Kansas? He is being deducted time for lunch, but required to go to this meeting. If your husband is an hourly employee, he must be paid for all hours worked.
