I asked my boss to let me review my personnel file last week. I was told "we will see". I was surprised by this response. after a few days I asked again & was told they were checking with their attorney to see if they had to show it to me. by this time I was very surprised. I called the EEOC, not knowing who else to ask, to see what they said. the person I spoke with said the definitely had to give me access. they said it didnt have to be that day but within a reasonable time period. today I was fired and still have not been given acces to my file. is there a law that states I have the right to access to my file? apparently their attorney inform them there was not. I am surprised the EEOC would give me bad info.

No, in Alabama there is no law requiring that your employer allow you access to your personnel file. It is entirely up to your employer whether to permit it or not. Whomever you spoke to at the EEOC is wrong.
