I live in Arkansas and I pay child support. I want to know what exactly does child support cover??? My ex-wife keeps telling me that child support is only for food, clothes and shelter. She constantly encourages the kids come to me begging for more money for school supplies, band instruments, and summer camp. I thought the $1,000/month child support payments I make would cover ALL of that stuff. What exactly is child support money supposed to be spent on???? :confused: :confused: :confused:

Your ordered child support is what you are legally responsible for paying. No more, no less. If you feel like spending extra money on something for the kids, that is your choice, but you are not required to. If she enrolls them in some activity or another without first discussing the extra costs with you and YOU agree to help defray said costs, then SHE is 100% responsible for paying. My advice is that if you don't feel the extra money is warranted, don't pay it, and don't feel guilty. It is despicable that she would use the children in this manner. Tell her to cut it out.
