My job was eliminated this past week. There was no human resources representative present when this happened. The letter stated I would be paid out a two week severance pay within 30 days. My question is was this handled legally in the state of Texas. I plan to leave this state in two weeks can I ask for the money sooner since there was not a HR rep present?

There is no requirement in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for severance pay. It is a matter of agreement between an employer and an employee and is often a calculation based on length of employment. You can ask for the money sooner, but the company is under no obligation to pay.
