I've seen the book and it's despirable and creepy. There were quite a few "reviews" that were essentially attacks on Burns, and Amazon probably decided to clean them up. L. Cindy did get photos and letters and at least one video: http://forums.adoption.com/t86853,15,1.html "I live for the photos and the letters that My Girls 's Mom and Dad or the emails they send are a Godsend to me . The letters put a voice to the photographs .. My most cherished gift to date is a video of My Girl playing alone and playing with her brother and also taking a bath it is set to music and they chose to include in the introduction my favorite song "Somewhere over the Rainbow" this has great meaning to me and them including it in the one year video was so thoughtful ... Yes write her and if YOU want write her more than agreed to unless she says otherwise. I love the contact and in my case wish I had more __________________ MAKE IT A GREAT DAY . Cindy did get photos and letters and at least one video: Promises can be explicit or implict. I guess it looked like a 'promising' situation to Cindy at the outset, but it's clear that she began to feel short-changed as time went on. I kind of get the impression that she was lulled into a sense of false security by the frequency and quality of contact that went on before the adoption took place. It seems as if, on one level, she accepted that there'd be less contact afterwards but that the withdrawal was sudden and brutal, and reality bit hard. Broken promises or not, my sense is that the book played a significant part in this tragedy (I see it as a breach of trust in itself). The knowledge of it would certainly have exacerbated any depression from which she may have been suffering - salt to a wound, so to speak - and if she were not already more than normally depressed for a woman who has just relinquished, it may very well have been the catalyst that pushed her over the edge. I'm not sure when Cindy first learned about the book (by all accounts she did so accidentally) but it must have been quite devastating to find oneself so chillingly commodified, particulary in the context of the situation.
