Ben

Hi. Is it legal to post the WHOIS data about a domain registration in a newsgroup?

When I say legal, I mean legal by govt. law. Not legal by charter.

It is publicly available information. So I dont believe there are any legal laws against it.

In the USA it's considered public domain info and is thus free to publish by
any means. Other countries YMMV.

It is. But your service may see that as a violation of terms of service and
will terminate your account.
Even though the information in a phone book is public domain, it is still
considered private information.
If you feel that is your right to post someone's personal information, then
be prepared to have it done to you.

There once was a case that was innocent by nature.
A man and his son were out in the front yard together and over a period of
several days, the man noticed cars with single guys driving by, slowing
down, some stopping, and just staring at them.
He later learned that someone had posted a photo of his son in a usenet
newsgroup, and gave out the address where to find the boy.
He was shocked to find out that it was very own neighbor who had posted the
photo and information.

Just be careful how you use that information. There is a law against
libel/slander to which you can be held accountable.

Only Pedophile Bullis would be aware of such a story.

too numerous to remember. Sandman and Slickone come to mind as a few of his

that he is an asshole. Now some assholes keep there mouths shut in fear that
they be discovered for the morons that they are, but he opens his trap and
