I have several slanderous and deflamatory letters sent to me by email by one
of the vendors I recently was contracted to provide eCommerce services for.
How do I go about launching a suit against the company myself? Any
suggestions?

The first question to ask when you feel you've been defamed is, how
much has it cost me? There are countless plaintiffs in defamation
cases who go to a great deal of trouble for nothing. Damage to your
reputation in your profession is worth money, but hurt feelings and
two bucks are just enough to get you a cup of coffee. If you can show
one deal you didn't get because the vendor bad-mouthed you, maybe you
are on to something. If not, you will do even more damage by wasting
your time on a defamation suit when you could have been building up
your business.

Dear ?,
You cannot sue for defamation unless the letters of which you complain
were sent to at least one someone other than yourself. Defamation is all
about damaging one's reputation in the community with false information. If
no one other than you was sent these letters, you have no legal cause of
action.

What about harassment though?

Absent a statutory remedy, there may be an action in infliction of mental
distress, but the letters would have to be pretty bad, and since the
contents aren't posted, one really can't tell.
